Features and Hacks
This is a listing of all things, normal and random, I have included in the current version of the Statbar Modifier. Some times, I'll release some odd feature for kicks and giggles you might not know about any other way. See the instructions page for more information.
Long user names and quotes
A standard feature, long quotes are automatically supported. The statbar will grow in length to accommodate any quote. As for long user names, this is not corrected automatically as I currently do not have a way to find a cacher's username. Instead, if you have a username that is clipped, contact me and I will add the name to a list; long usernames in this list are automatically corrected.
Two logos
As a request from another geocacher, you can have two logos on your statbar. At the top of the Statbar Modifier page, select "Left" or "Right" to choose your two logos. To remove a logo, click the "Remove logo" link below the logo you wish to remove. Easy as that.
Your logo on your "my" page!
Use this
Greasemonkey Script
to get your statbar on your "my" page. Install the script, then go to the Statbar Modifier home page and get your statbar's URL. After that, visit your "my" page and paste the URL into the dialog box that shows up. That's it!
Random Logo From List
For the heck of it, I added a random logo function to the Statbar Modifier. It will randomly display a logo from a list you specify each time your statbar is generated.
First, you'll need to know each image's id you want to include. This can be done easily enough by clicking each image and displaying the statbar. Note the ending "
&img=
" equation (such as "
&img=ncgo
"). This is the id. Write them all down.
Next, build a statbar and copy the URL to your webpage or wherever. Look at the "
&img=
" section and add the ids from your list, using a comma (
and no spaces
) to separate them. For instance, "triad,tt,signalsnow, signalflower, signaljeep, signalny, ncfoothills, garminite, hazards".
The following is a live example. Click the button to change the image.
Use a background
To use a background, select it from the list. You have the option of using logos with a background or foregoing logos altogether. When a background is selected, more options will appear for fine-tuning the statbar. I recommend you clicking on the link "Display the background's recommended values" for best results.
Detailed Explanation of Background Options
The background options are more intuitive than you might think. The following is an explanation of what is possible and what each value means:
Statbar width
: If you know the background's width and want it shorter, you can set a width in pixels in this box. If you don't know the background's width, give this value a
negative
number and it will make the width that much shorter. Either way, it will crop the right side off the statbar. If you would like the left side cropped, see the "Background indent, left" option. If a background is shorter than what would be needed to display the logos and user information, do not specify a value here; the Statbar Modifier will automatically make the background wide enough to accommodate everything without cropping.
Statbar height
: This works the same way as the width, but with regard to the height. Negative values can also be used the same as you would in the height. There is no equivalent to "Background indent, left". Specifying a height greater than the background's height will cause the background to stretch to fill that height.
Background indent, left
: Some background will include a design on the right side instead of the left. Specifying a value for the statbar's width will crop whatever is on the right. If you would like the left side cropped, use this option and provide a
negative
number. The background's left side will be cropped. Think of it as providing a negative value for paragraph indent in Microsoft Word.
Text indent, top
: The word "text" refers to the section with your user name, stats, and quote. By default, this section is placed at the top of the statbar. However, for taller statbars, you might want this centered or at a specific location. Use this to specify the how many pixels from the top of the background this text section should start. The only supported negative values are -1 and -2; these will get a user's name almost flush with the border. All other negative values are treated as -2.
Text indent, left
: The word "text" refers to the section with your user name, stats, and quote. By default, this section is placed at the very left edge of the statbar OR to the immediate right of the left logo. Using a positive value here will move the text section that far to the right. Negative values are ignored.
Text color, (html)
: This will change the color of your name, stats, and quote. The value should be in HTML RGB format.
Logo indent, left
: You can indent both your left and right logos when using a background. A positive number will move your logo further right while a negative number will move it further left, even cropping the logo off the edge of the statbar if you so desired. Specifying a negative number for your right logo's left indent may cause it to overlap your stats section. I have left this option available to you in case there was some odd need to do so.
Logo indent, top
: By default, all logos are centered vertically. From there, you can adjust your left and right logo's position. Specifying a positive value here will move the logo down while a negative value will move it up. Moving it too much either way will cause the logo to be cropped; the statbar will not resize its height to prevent the logo from being partially displayed, nor will it prevent it from being cropped at the top.
Add a border
: The border refers to the back line surrounding the statbar. By default, it is included on all statbars. However, if you have some sort of web page design in mind that would look better if your statbar did not have a border (or a statbar background that might not need a border), you can uncheck this box to tell the Statbar Modifier not to include the border.
